I’m having some of the same issues as the author except I have two children involved. The environment they’re living in is unstructered, unloved, and a whole lot of other un’s. I can be more detailed after I get a response. Right now I need to vent before I catch a case.

Hi Samuel, how are you?
By all means… please leave a more detailed version of your story. A big part of this site is giving dads a spot where they can tell their stories and hopefully get some support, advice, encouragement, etc.

If you want to do some guest blogging here in which you tell your story, let me know.. or, you can do what a lot of other people do and tell your story right here in the comments… it’s up to you friend………..

take care..

Charles, what sort of court order do you have in place? Do you have one? Do you have joint legal custody?

the law states that a father who has a child born out of wedlock has no rights over that child until he contests the courts. Im battling that on top of a lying, cheating, greedy baby mama I realy could use some help, support, advice, and guerrila army.any advice out there?

Yes, Nick… that’s the dream… that men actually get their shit together enough in America to have an actual (real) father rights movement

Hi Mike, first let me tell you that I’m not an attorney. I’m just a dad who’s been through the wringer of the American family court system. Now, that having been said, I think you’ll need to take mom to court to get a modification of child support. How old is your child? What state are you in? These things are very important when determining child support and also whether you have any obligation to pay for college.

A very cheap way to get your questions answered by an actual lawyer is to visit the home page:
http://www.princedaddy.com/

You’ll see a question box up at the top. That’s a service that I can in good conscience recommend to all my readers. It’s just a really affordable way to figure out your legal approach.

Good luck Mike!

Have you ever heard of someone being served for paternity tests after 12 years of not knowing the child existed? Did I mention, I was 16 when we had sex and she was older, in TN classifies as statetory rape? I was contacted out of the blue with an order for a paternity test which concluded I am the father. The grandmother has custody of the child and I have now been ordered to pay $735/month in child support as well as carry insurance on the child. I have never even seen her and can not even get a phone number to make contact? Do I have any rights at all? Appartently the mother has signed over her rights and does not have to pay support, why should I have to pay if she doesn’t? This is crazy! Anyone have a similar experience?

J Johnson, I’ve heard stories about child support etc. being invoked after some lengthy periods of time…yes, I have…what were the circumstances by which you were contacted out of the blue? I’m really curious about that.

Interesting that the grandmother has custody. The child support amount sounds sort of high. Do you make a lot of money or something?

If you are the biological dad, yes, you do have rights. You are going to have to take it to Family Court to get them enforced. You’ll have to take Grandma to court as she’s got primary custody of the child.

It’s really not all that crazy. You’re a dad. You’ve got a 12 year old … a 12 year old… do you have a son or a daughter? Congratulations man. Take it to court and love your kid.

Post more if you want more info.

The background on my story is …. I was 16 yrs old, the mother was my friends sister, she was 24 with a small child and we had sex once, she lived in another city, was still seeing the 1st childs dad. Obviously she got preg., I assumed after she got preg. the dad was the other guy she was seeing however, she was no angel and got around. Anyway, nothing was ever said to me about the child possibly being mine, and being so young, never gave it much thought. The mother is basically a piece of crap and was neglecting both children and apparently the kids were removed and custody given to the grandmother when my child was 14 months old. I was still never contacted. The grandmother took care of both kids and became the legal guardian until her husband left her last year. I have been told that she applied for state help/insurance at that time and they asked who the father was. This state help triggered the state to find the father, I was served paternity papers to have DNA test and was shocked after all this time. Parties were tested with multiple possible fathers tested and I was the lucky winner. I just went to court a few weeks ago and rec’d the order for support. I pay $695 monthly and was charged to pay $35/month back pay. I also have to carry insurance costing $168 per month. I make pretty good $$ last year around $45k, but have to pay $900 to a child I have never even seen a picture of! I was told that I have to go to court to just even talk to her. I love the way the mothers have free lawyers but I have no money left after bills and now child support to pay for one! I have a daughter who is 12 1/2 years old. Who knows what she thinks about her father by now? Kicker is, I have a baby due in Dec. with my fiance…. I was told my support would only be adjusted by $75 when the new baby is born, this doesn’t seem right either. I am going to see another lawyer tomorrow because we think the other lawyer gave away the farm! We will also inquire about rights to see her. I will keep you posted.
